Softball struggles in double header against UNI

Double header spells defeat for WSU, who has yet to win both games of a double header this season. Shocker Softball was in action on Saturday playing Northern Iowa University.

The first of the two games was close until the very end. The score read 1-0 in favor of UNI until the sixth inning. WSU was able to tie it up 1-1 on a homerun to left center field from Ali Vandever.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Shockers gave up two runs and committed two errors to give the lead right back to the Panthers.

In the top of the seventh inning, WSU scored again on a ground out from Megan McCracken. With a tying runner on base, the Shocks struck out to end the game.

In the second of the two games, WSU couldn’t connect the bats with the ball to keep up with a UNI surge in the bottom of the second inning where the Panthers scored six of their seven runs. The only point on the board for WSU came in the fourth inning when Brittany Fortner doubled to score Brianne Bond.

The last game against UNI was scheduled for Sunday, but was cancelled. WSU plays their next three games as home starting with a double header against Missouri State at 4 pm in Wichita on April 17.
