Bookstore sells 10,000 tournament T-shirts
Brydgett Pitzer had the Wichita State website up during Saturday’s Elite Eight game against Ohio State University, waiting to buy a Final Four T-shirt or other garb.
She bought one for herself and one for her husband almost right after the game ended.
“We had it sitting there waiting for them to post pictures of the shirts,” she said. “It was about 10 o’clock.”
She did not get to see the shirts immediately due to the number of people at the site.
“It was hit hard,” Pitzer, a social work senior, said.
Bookstore Director Kevin Konda said he was ready for the onslaught.
“We’ve got all kinds of T-shirts in here,” he said. “Business is booming.”
Konda said many different styles have been ordered, including long- and short-sleeved T-shirts and sweatshirts, with ball caps on the way. More than 10,000 T-shirts in several styles are available and have been ordered. Official posters have been ordered, too.
“We try to get something in here that everybody would want,” Konda said.
Tanya Lord, assistant textbook manager, has been helping customers get the style they want. It is not easy.
“It’s good. It’s crazy. It’s fun,” she said. “Everybody’s excited.”
Lord said the most popular item has been the T-shirt with the WuShock mascot on it.
“A lot of people are waiting for the ‘Play Angry,’” she said.
Garb with the Final Four date on it is selling well, too, Lord said.
Many customers are buying multiple shirts.
One lady was overheard buying six – one for each member of the family.
“A lot of people are buying one of each, because it hasn’t happened in a long time,” Lord said.
Konda said all profits from the sales go to the Rhatigan Student Center operational expenses.
“Everything we sell here goes back to the RSC,” he said. “Personally, I haven’t had a day off in two weeks.”
Lord expects a national championship victory to mean even more business.
“It will be even crazier,” she said.
