Jake White leaving basketball team to pursue further playing opportunities
Sophomore men’s basketball player Jake White’s request to be released from the team has been granted.
Known for being a hard worker, the 6-foot-8 forward plans to find another Division I school where he can play a larger role.
“I’m looking for an opportunity to play more, and to be a more significant factor,” White said. “I didn’t find that at WSU. I am looking forward to the prospect of playing elsewhere, but I want to thank WSU for supporting me and being helpful while I work through this process.”
The success of the men’s basketball program this year and last will certainly help White find a suitable program where he can be a feature. Coming into games ready to shoot, he proved to be a decent rotational player with a knack for offensive rebounding.
While White did not say which schools came calling upon hearing of his release, he did hint that there was more than one. White might best be remembered for his crucial tip-in at the halftime buzzer that gave WSU a five-point lead over then No. 1 Gonzaga.
He played in 37 games this season, and in just 10 minutes, averaged almost four points and three rebounds.
