WSU College Republicans collecting cans for the hungry

For the past week, WSU’s College Republicans have been collecting non-perishable food items to be donated to Kansas Food Bank. According to College Republicans head of Public Relations Stephen Hoover, the group is far from meeting its goal.

Hoover said the ultimate goal is to collect 100 pounds of food for their donation. However, even with only one day left for students to donate, the group is far from meeting their goal.

“I feel that people think we are doing this just to make a political statement,” Hoover said. “But really, we just want to help those in need.”

Since the group will wrap their food drive up tomorrow afternoon, Hoover is hoping students will stop by College Republicans’ table in the Rhatigan Student Center, and bring multiple non-perishable food items.

“Regardless of your political affiliation, we just want students to help us make our goal,” Hoover said.

In addition to the table in the RSC, another box is located at room 418 in Lindquist Hall.

Hoover said the group plans to wrap-up the food collection at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, so the opportune time for students to donate, especially at the table in the RSC, is during lunch tomorrow.

“We are really hoping we will make our goal,” Hoover said. “I want us to kick hunger in the face, and help out a good cause.”
