Shocker’s success is causing team shirts to fly
Almost 500 Wichita State Elite 8 T-shirts sold in less than 90 minutes at the university bookstore in the Rhatigan Student Center today.
Do not fret, a second printing of 864 Elite 8 T-shirts will be for sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Fans have a choice of two designs.
Junior Allison Gettings bought one.
“I picked up a Sweet 16 shirt as well,” she said while standing in a long line. “These are the first ones I’ve bought.”
She is an integrated marketing communications major.
“It’s great marketing for WSU, all the hype we’re getting,” Gettings said.
Aishwarya Abbareddy, a December 2012 biology graduate, said wearing the T-shirts make watching the games that much more exciting.
“These are really good memories,” she said.
Senior Computer Science major Josh Gamble added to his collection of WSU garb with an Elite 8 shirt and another WSU ball cap.
“It was one of those ‘oh, my gosh run over here’,” he said. “It’s the spirit of things, man.”
Getting agreed.
‘It’s good school spirit,” she said.
Bookstore Director Kevin Konda said if the team wins in the Elite 8, about another 2,000 shirts will be printed if they win in the Final Four.
If the Shockers win the championship . . .
“Oh, we’re talking 5,000 to 10,000, in that range,” Konda said.
Abbareddy said would come back to the main campus to buy one of those.
“I would definitely want to be part of it,” she said.
People are buying up the T-shirts at sports stores in Wichita, too.
Valerie Becker, manager of Sports Time Fan Shop at 21st St. and Maize Road, said people are buying more than one.
“I had a lady buy each style of Elite 8, which was three. She bought four Sweet 16,” she said. “People are buying four to 10 at a time. It’s a 10-minute wait.”
“They’re happy,” Becker said.
