In a tough matchup to begin their season against #13 Oklahoma University, the Wichita State women’s tennis team was beaten, 6-1. It is the 37th consecutive home win for the Sooners.

The Sooners swept both doubles matchups. Wichita State was bested quickly in singles on the second, third, fourth and sixth courts. However, the other two matches were hard-fought battles.

On court two, redshirt senior Natsumi Kurahashi was beaten in the first set, 6-1, but fought back with a 6-2 win in set two. In the decisive 10-point tiebreaker, Kurahashi fell short, 10-8.

On the fifth court, freshman Anne Knuettel won the first set on a tiebreaker set, 10-8. She dropped set two 6-2 before gutting out a win in the tiebreaker, 10-8.

The Shockers continue their season on Saturday, Jan. 20, in Omaha against Creighton.
