Escape From Planet Earth

An alien astronaut answers an SOS from a notoriously dangerous planet and fights to save it from its fiendish rulers. Featuring the voices of Ricky Gervais, Sarah Jessica Parker, Brendan Fraser, Jessica Alba and William Shatner, this 3D computer animated film would be a fun Valentine’s Day gift for the kids, showing how much you love them.

Safe Haven

A Nicholas Sparks film adaptation is a staple this time of the year and this year’s offering brings us the story of a mysterious young woman (Julianne Hough) who has to confront her past, once she begins a courtship with a local man (Josh Duhamel). The romantics at heart should get a kick out of this film, even if it’s not up to the standards of Sparks’ best known love story, “The Notebook.”

A Good Day to Die Hard

For the couples that love action movies, be sure to give the fifth John McClane adventure a look this weekend. Bruce Willis returns as the “right man in the wrong place at the wrong time,” this time joining up with his son (Jai Courtney) in Russia involving a terrorist plot with nuclear weapons. Although it’s nice to see the series return to the R-rated format, the short 97-minute running time is a little varying. In any case, it should be worth seeing for a couple of grand explosions, especially in IMAX.
