Felipe’s: good food, but a little pricey

Felipe’s Mexican Restaurant is one of the better Mexican restaurants in Wichita. While parking at the East-side location can be a pain, the inside helps make up for it.

Upon entering, I notice a bar to my left. It was lively with people talking and enjoying their evening. The bar looked to be the busiest area, as there were many empty tables. For a Saturday, they weren’t near as busy as one would think.

I was quickly escorted to my seat. I was given the option of sitting at a table or booth; I decided to sit at a table. After a minute of glancing over the menu, my server returned with a bowl of chips and salsa. She then left to get me a drink. Upon her returning, I told her I would like to try the enchiladas with chile con queso.

I looked at my surroundings as I awaited my meal. It was dimly lit and spacious. The walls were decorated with paintings and wall hangings, and statues on shelves. In the background, Mexican music played softly.

A short five minutes later, my server brought out my food. A separate plate with beans and rice were served on the side. The enchiladas were covered in a thick, creamy queso sauce. It had a rich taste with a little spice to it. The enchiladas fell apart easily while cutting them. Though it was a good meal, the chicken was rather dry.

The air conditioning made for an uncomfortable meal. It was cranked way too high, causing me to shiver as I ate. I highly recommend bringing a jacket along.

It was, in all, a fairly good meal. The prices are a little high for the food. It’s a nice place to go if you want to hang out with friends—just make sure you have plenty of cash to cover the price.
