Won’t Back Down

This drama details the plights of two mothers, played by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis, who work hard to change their children’s public school system to make them get a better education. Inspired by the events that lead to the passing of the first parent trigger law, this film should prove to be worthy of its message that it’s delivering, along with films like “Waiting for Superman.”

Hotel Transylvania

Genndy Tartakovsky’s reputation goes down the drain with this “Mad Monster Party” CGI rip-off staring the voice of 2012’s Razzie-Award-winning actor Adam Sandler as Dracula, who runs a resort with other famous monsters like werewolves, Frankenstein’s monster, mummies, and even the Invisible Man, voiced by David Spade, along with Jon Lovitz as the hunchback Quasimodo. I never thought I’d see that in a million years. This is something for the younger kids, and they can wait until it’s on DVD.

Looper

This confusing plot of a time-travel film features Bruce Willis as a member of a mob in the future who uses time travel to kill its targets. Willis’s target just happens to be himself as a young man, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Although the effort to make Levitt look like Willis through make-up is notable, the final effect comes off as too fake and a good reason why it’s smart not to worry about those sorts of things. This movie would benefit over repeat viewings … at home.
