See it or Skip it? – September 6

The Cold Light of Day

The new Superman, John McClane and Ellen Ripley all in one movie? Sounds good on paper, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, this is no “Expendables,” as the movie has been out since April in the United Kingdom and the reception isn’t so hot.

Verdict: Skip It! X

The Words

Although the poster for this film featuring Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana gives it a “Love Story” impression, don’t be fooled. It’s really just plagiarism of the film “Secret Window.” Ironic, isn’t it?

Verdict: Skip It! X

The Possession

Last week’s No. 1 film at the box office delivers all the cheap scares a PG-13 film can offer. Not even The Comedian from “Watchmen” can make this thriller funny enough to watch.

Verdict: Skip It! X

Lawless

Sam Witwicky and Bane are Prohibition-era bootleggers who find themselves against competitors and corrupted law enforcement officials.  This film hardly made an impression last week, probably due to Shia LaBeouf’s diminishing star power and not being able to shout, “OPTIMUS!” However, this film has one saving grace – Gary Oldman as a mobster, which is enough to tide me over until they finally release “Gangster Squad” next year.

Verdict: See It! ✓

Raiders of the Lost Ark: The IMAX Experience

This is a guaranteed hit whether you’ve seen this a million times or the first time. Opportunities like this one don’t come often. I’m already shaking over the opening of the ark scene in that magnitude. Be sure to see it right away, as it’s only going to be out for one week, in conjunction with the upcoming Blu-ray release of the Indiana Jones Trilogy. What? There’s a fourth film? Surely, you jest!

Verdict: See It! ✓
