Shockers lose to Missouri in overtime

The Wichita State Shockers (21-20) forced the Missouri Tigers (18-21) into the 10th inning before finding themselves with a late 4-5 loss.

Garrett Bayliff scored two runs in the outing.

Daniel Kihle started out the action in the night with a single to the left-field side, stealing second with Tanner Dearman at bat to get within scoring position. A single to right by Bayliff gave Kihle the opportunity to make it home and give the Shockers a 1-0 lead.

Two batters later, a sacrifice by Chase Simpson allowed Bayliff to score and gave WSU a two-point lead.

After being hit by a pitch in the third, Dearman stole second to allow Bayliff to repeat his first inning performance by singling to the right hand side for an RBI as Dearman scored.

The Shockers held onto the lead until Missouri scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The first came on a wild pitch by Aaron LaBrie through Tyler Baker’s glove. A single to left and sacrifice to center field gave Missouri a one-point advantage with runners on the corners. Foster Vielock replaced LaBrie on the mound, successfully holding off the Tigers from scoring any more.

A sacrifice by Baker to deep center field scored Casey Gillaspie with two outs in the eighth to tie up the game.

With bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth, a hit to right field by Dylan Everett earned the win for Missouri.

The Shockers will head to New Orleans over the weekend to face Tulane before coming back home to face Kansas on Tuesday, April 29.
