Assistant volleyball coach suspended following arrest

Wichita State assistant volleyball coach Jeff Sanders was suspended with pay following an arrest in Maize last Thursday.

In a news release, this was due to “conduct detrimental to the athletic program and Wichita State University.”

According to The Wichita Eagle, a Maize police report indicates Sanders was arrested in front of his home. In addition to a DUI charge, he was charged with improper driving on a landed roadway.

The volleyball team’s opening weekend for the season was held in Orem, Utah. Sanders did not travel with the team. He will also not travel to Portland, Ore. for the NIKE Invitational this weekend.

The university’s policy is not to comment on personnel issues.

Sanders began his 10th season with the Shockers this year after serving as head coach at Garden City Community College for five years.
