Another backcourt transfer has been landed for Wichita State men’s basketball, as former George Mason guard Jahari Long announced his commitment Tuesday morning via his personal Instagram account.
Long, a 6-foot-5 senior, was reportedly pursued by Southern California, according to The Wichita Eagle.
But the Houston connection between Long, head coach Paul Mills and assistant coach PJ Couisnard perhaps outweighed the Power Four interest, as Long played for Couisnard’s AAU team, Cooz Elite. Wichita State also offered Long a scholarship while he was in high school, according to 247 Sports.
Long made previous stops at Seton Hall and Maryland before transferring to George Mason last year. He’s entering his seventh season of collegiate basketball and will have one year of eligibility remaining. Long played in five games at Seton Hall in 2021-22 and missed the entire 2024-25 season due to injuries.
With the recent addition of Jordan Frison out of the portal, the Shockers’ roster formation is a little clearer. Frison was a proven playmaker at Division II Pittsburg State, and Chattanooga.
Long fits a similar mold.
Coming off a career-year for the Patriots, Long averaged 12.2 points per game and shot 45.4% from the floor, 37.7% from 3-point range and 82.6% at the foul line. He grabbed 3.3 rebounds a game and dished out 4.0 assists on average, good for an eye-popping 2.26 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Wichita State’s backcourt is now full of veteran leadership. Long and Frison, a senior, join guard Mike Gray Jr., who also received a medical hardship waiver and announced he plans to stay a Shocker with his extra year of eligibility.
Mills can now deploy up to three proven shooters and playmakers on the court at the same time and relieve some pressure from Gray, who switched roles from an off-ball scorer at Nicholls State to Wichita State’s primary ball-handler for most of last season.
With Long’s commitment, the Shockers now have three roster spots available ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Need another power forward and a backup center and this team will be pretty complete. Great job by Coach Mills.
