Shocker volleyball hopes to keep winning streak against Bradley, Loyola this weekend
After a dominating weekend with sweeps over both UNI and Drake, 14-6 Wichita State not only gained prestige in the Missouri Valley Conference, but momentum for the week ahead, as well.
Eighteen kills from redshirt freshman Shimen Fayad helped to defeat UNI by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-22.
Earning their 30th straight set win over Drake, the Shockers brought wins of 25-12, 25-23 and 25-11 back to Wichita.
Looking ahead, as they inch closer to one-third of the way through the MVC regular-season, Wichita State has Bradley on their radar.
The Shockers host the Braves at 7 p.m. Friday on their home court at Charles Koch Arena.
Bradley is currently 5-14 overall and are 0-7 in the MVC this season.
Winless in the conference, the Braves are led in kills by Erica Haslag, and ranked last in the Missouri Valley, with a hitting percentage of only .164 percent, while the Shockers hit .258.
From a more competitive standpoint, Loyola and Wichita State, both 5-1 in the MVC, share the top spot in the league standings and will go head-to-head at 6 p.m. Saturday at Koch Arena.
This even match-up will leave the winner in sole possession of the No. 1 ranking.
Wichita State will have to minimize hitting errors, as only .02 percent separates the two teams overall hitting percentages.
Although Loyola dominates most of the stat boards, they rank last in total digs, while WSU ranks third.
The 16-3 Ramblers are led in kills by Morgan Reardon.
Friday night’s game against Bradley will be broadcast live on ESPN3, and Saturday night’s match versus Loyola will be available online at GoShockers.com/watch.
