Softball advances to 7-0 after successful weekend
After another weekend triangular, the Wichita State softball team advanced to 7-0 Saturday after victories against Johnson County Community College and Rockhurst University.
In game one, WSU took a quick lead and ran with it to win 8-1 against Johnson County.
Offensively, redshirt junior Cacy Williams led the Shockers with two hits and one RBI. Defensively, senior Ashlynne Neil came away with the win after pitching five innings.
In game two WSU came away with another win over Rockhurst, 17-0.
As a whole, the biggest push for the Shockers came in the first inning after scoring four runs.
To follow their commanding first inning, the team swept Rockhurst by scoring at least one run in every inning except for the third and seventh. Offensively, every hitter had a chance to contribute with 10, collecting at least one hit, and five players collecting two.
Defensively in game two, junior Katie Malone took the win after pitching the entire game.
With only five scheduled games left in the fall season, the Shockers are looking for more wins, starting with their next game Tuesday. The team is scheduled to be back in action at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Seminole State College.
