‘Under the Lights’ fashion show promotes local designers, models

“Under the Lights” fashion show takes the stage Thursday night with featured ensembles by local company LXST Dreams modeled by Wichita State students.

The fifth annual show, presented by the Black Student Union, will feature merchandise from local designers KaCey Green and Brittney Hill, founders of LXST Dreams Clothing, LLC.

“We put on the show to help promote local designers in Wichita,” said Shakeya Stanley, BSU vice president.

Stanley said BSU had troubles keeping designers committed to the event. They started with four in total, but were left with only one — LXST Dreams.

“But the show must go on, and it will be a great show,” she said.

Due to designers dropping out, BSU decided to have the models model their own clothes, in addition to LXST Dreams merchandise.

The show will feature different sections, including “Denim on Denim,” a summer-time section, and “In-Living Color,” which features vibrant, loud colors.

Sophomore model Blake Glasgow said the goal is to market the clothes.

“To be able to wear clothes to gain interest in the designer is the best part,” Glasgow said.

Green said the company originated from an idea sparked by Hill, and in 2013 the brand was created.

“Since then, we have been building our brand and constantly challenging ourselves to create better designs and expand our line.

“As a team we got together, and our dream was to build something dope that was worthwhile, and we weren’t going to let anything get in our way of turning that dream into reality.”

Green said their brand embodies that concept and promotes that those who wear their products go after their own dreams and never lose sight.

This is the second year LXST Dreams is participating in the fashion show, as its owners see it as an opportunity to promote their company. They will be showcasing items from their previous fall collection, as well as a few up-and-coming summer items.

LXST Dreams merchandise can be purchased at Well Done Skate supply in the historic Delano district.
