Volleyball loses in semifinals
Wichita State’s volleyball team (20-10) fell to Northern Iowa (21-10) in the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament Friday night.
With 2,574 people in attendance at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the Shockers started strong, winning the first set 25-21.
Then it was all Panthers. UNI won the next three sets 25-23, 25-23 and 25-18.
Outside hitter MaryAshton Floyd led the Shockers with 17 kills followed by middle blocker Abbie Lehman and outside hitter Ashlyn Driskill with 10 kills apiece.
Even with the loss in the semifinals, WSU’s Emily Hiebert earned a spot on the MVC’s All-Tournament team, the lone Shocker to do so.
Earlier in the week, multiple Shockers received postseason conference awards.
Floyd and Lehman made the MVC All-Conference first team. Driskill made the second team.
Lehman and setter Emily Hiebert made the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman team.
Wichita State was not selected to play in the NCAA Tournament as the field of 64 was revealed last night.
