The geezer graduates

My dearest Sunflower readers, as I finish my second semester with this paper, I finish my time at Wichita State, as well.

While working for the Sunflower, I have had the honor of meeting people from many different walks of life while being able to be the sports junkie I am, covering baseball, volleyball and basketball.

Working for this paper, I’ve had such a great experience where I was never hesitant to go to a game, write a story or learn something new from my peers.

I wish my time with the paper wasn’t ending, so I could bring more stories and keep learning, but the big bad real world looms ahead of me.

So, in my signing off, I’ll try to give you some advice that comes from an old, decrepit senior that’ll hopefully make you more successful in college. Or at least more happy.

First thing’s first, get some sleep, and I don’t mean five hours. Sleep is just as important as eating, so when someone says, “I haven’t slept all night, go me,” they might as well be saying “Hooray! I starve myself!”

With that, don’t deplete yourself of social experiences, but know there is a balance, so try to conquer that inner FOMO (fear of missing out) you’re having.

Next, for the love of God, don’t procrastinate. Buy a planner. Write stuff down in it. Then do it on time.

Finally, join an organization or a club, whatever it may be. You’ll find that you are way more fulfilled in college than you thought possible, and fun activities will jump out at you every corner you turn.

Take into consideration that college is a way for people to see you are capable of completing something, so do it with your full heart and effort so that you can be proud of yourself.

In my four-and-a-half years here at WSU, while I’ve changed majors multiple times, I can say that despite my mistakes and setbacks, I am thrilled to graduate, because I have learned so much about myself, on top of learning how to apply my degree.

Thank you, Sunflowerers!
