New ‘Star Wars’ film teaser reignites excitement

Nov. 28, 2014 will be a day long remembered and not because it saw the end of Obi-Wan-Kenobi, or the possible end of the Rebel Alliance.

However, the teaser trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was released on the Internet that day, causing a level of excitement that hasn’t been seen since May 2005.

For this Star Wars nerd, it makes Dec. 18, 2015, the release date of the upcoming film, seem an eternity away.

Already, the teaser is creating waves of conversation on social media. Fans have already had discussions about a black stormtrooper being featured, the new, sinister-looking lightsaber briefly shown in the teaser and being excited that Han Solo’s spacecraft The Millennium Falcon making a brief appearance.

One fan (or perhaps a group of fans) even went so far as to create a “George Lucas Special Edition” version of the trailer. That YouTube video spoofed many of Lucas’s changes to the original trilogy, which have been attacked by fans of the series for not adding anything to the story.

Even before the teaser was released last week, excitement was already brewing with many of the announcements of behind-the-scenes goings on. Easily the most exciting thing was the announcement that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford would be reprising their characters from the original trilogy (Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker are also returning).

The news that John Williams, who composed the score for all six “Star Wars” films was a relief — there can be no “Star Wars” without John Williams music.

Anticipation for the next film is sure to continue to build as the release date draws closer over the next 12 months. The feature trailer of the film will likely have fans talking for weeks and leave us hungry for more.

The Force will be with all “Star Wars” fans as we wait. Always.
