Wu’s Holiday Bazaar kicks off

Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, jewelry booths and more flooded the second floor of the Rhatigan Student Center for Wu’s Holiday Bazaar in hopes that students come upstairs for their Christmas shopping needs.

While price points for the products vary from $5 to $100, getting students to the second floor to shop may be harder as finals are approaching.

“I’m not really worried about Christmas shopping as much as finals coming up,” Wichita State student Luci Harp said. “Most students come to the RSC to study, so I don’t really want to take time from studying to shop.”

However, some merchants have seen sales, like designer Rachel Clement who was offering various handcrafted wood decorations for a low price.

Clement said she gives her woodcrafts themes that range from university pride to dual-season decorative pieces.

“I’ve had a couple of the staff buy my things, but they say traffic will pick up around 11 a.m. or 5 p.m.,” Clement said.

Clement started her business five years ago, making crafts for baby decorations, but her business has evolved since then.

However, other businesses at the Bazaar don’t have the same focus on direct sales that Clement does.

Not only are businesses like Park Lane and Monat selling their products at premium prices, but they’re also interested in students working for them.

“I’m looking for customers, but I’m also looking for market partners,” said Monat representative Diane Blaine.

Blaine said Monat, a premium botanical hair care company, launched Oct. 1, and has already seen impressive numbers regarding its direct sales.

“I think this is a really good opportunity for college students to make money, because they would be their own business through Monat,” Blaine said.

If students are already buying salon-priced hair products, then Monat won’t be too far off the budget, as one product line is $100.

While Park Lane offers jewelry at a similar price, discounts and a lifetime guarantee come with their jewelry.

Straying away from jewelry, Scentsy was also offered upstairs for gifts that smell luxurious.

Products from Pampered Chef were also available to flame some cooking inspiration.

Wreaths, bows, makeup, scarves and even more jewelry can also be found at Wu’s Holiday Bazaar today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the second floor of the RSC.
