Best of the best: All treats, no tricks

Every year since the age of about six, I long await the arrival of Halloween.

Not because I love the holiday itself, but because I love what it means — treats, and lots of them. With Halloween coming up Friday, I’ve decided to share three of my favorite Halloween treats.

These are sure to impress any trick-or-treater, friend or family member lucky enough to taste them.

Halloween Witches: These fun, crafty treats require marshmallows, vanilla frosting, chocolate kisses, chocolate chips, Reese’s miniature peanut butter cups and chocolate wafers.

Use the chocolate chips to make the face of the witch on the marshmallow. Place a layer of frosting across the top of the marshmallow.

Next, layer a chocolate wafer, a peanut butter cup and a chocolate kiss in that order.

If you want to add some color, use green food coloring to dye shredded coconut; it makes a great head of hair for the marshmallow witch.

Strawberry Ghosts: These are my favorite. For this recipe, you will need strawberries, white chocolate baking chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips and shortening.

In a bowl, mix together shortening and the baking chips. You will use one teaspoon of shortening for every eight ounces of baking chips.

After the white chocolate is melted, dip your strawberries into the mixture and set on wax paper.

Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips and use a toothpick to draw on the face of the ghost.

Ghost Cookies: This treat only requires three ingredients. Those are crushed white candy coating, Nutter Butter cookies and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Putting these together only requires melting the candy coating in the microwave and dipping the Nutter Butter cookies into the coating.

After that, melt the chocolate chips and use a toothpick to draw on the face.

All of these treats are fast and cheap options to spice up your Halloween night.

Besides the fun of creating them, you also get to enjoy delicious tasting desserts.
