That Gay Group! changes its name
Since 2000, Wichita State’s That Gay Group! has used the term “gay” in its name to represent the entire LGBT community, but soon all that will change. The group will be called Spectrum: LGBTQ & Allies.
“The goal of the new name is to include everyone, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and our allies,” President Jacob Kresky said. “We believe that the name Spectrum will continue to evolve with the group, because it is an easily identifiable name for current and new students, and because it is inclusive to those who identify in all aspects of the spectrum.”
Spectrum’s goal is to provide a safe environment in which members of the LGBTQ community and their friends and family can meet to share experiences, concerns and ideas.
The group meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Lucas Room (RSC 265) when classes are in session, and will be up an running next month.
