Sigma Alpha Epsilon hosts volleyball nights, invites other Greek organizations
Members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and other Greek organizations gathered to play volleyball Wednesday evening and develop relationships at SAE’s fraternity house, competing against each other to help build teamwork skills.
Lance Kokojan, a freshman studying history and museum science, recently became a member of SAE. Kokojan said he is excited to be a part of SAE, because he feels the time is right within the fraternity.
“I think it’s a resurging fraternity. One that’s coming back from a short time of being quiet,” Kokojan said. “I think I joined at a really interesting time, because as we’re dominating the beginnings of intramurals, we’re probably going to have the best philanthropy.”
Breck Towner, a sophomore studying business, is starting his second year in SAE, has been with the fraternity since the summer of 2015.
“I was able to immerse myself in that SAE culture before school started, so I got to meet a lot of the older guys ahead of time, see the operation of the house,” Towner said. “And it’s been an amazing experience so far.”
Volleyball nights have two different purposes, said Bailey Bryand, president of SAE.
“Sometimes it’s a recruitment purpose, where we want to get guys out to join our fraternity,” Bryand said. “But it’s also a good chance to get the Greek community together, so we’ll have sororities and guys from other fraternities over. We’ll grill out, play music, and just have a good time.”
Sigma Alpha Epsilon was founded in 1856 and is dedicated to teaching the core values of honor, loyalty, friendship, and brotherhood. SAE is also focused on helping members become “The True Gentleman,” or a vision of what the organization believes is the most honorable version of what a man can be.
The volleyball games will be held from 7 to 9:45 p.m. Wednesday nights at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house, 1714 Fairmount St. and all students interested in SAE are invited to join. Additionally, members of other fraternities and sororities are welcome.
