Sport Management Student Association connects students with their interests
If being part of one of eleven accredited sport management programs worldwide wasn’t enough to set students apart on your resume, they can get practical experiences with Sport Management Student Association (SMSA).
The association connects sport management students with events and trips to job fairs. Students have the opportunity to groom their resumes and interview skills while also testing a changing job market.
“SMSA is the building block connection for students,” said Executive VP of the SMSA Board Tyler Harrison, “It helps students with fast-tracked connections that other students, alumni, and professors have previously built.”
To better help their students grow, SMSA gives them opportunities to work with the Wichita community. The association works in close connection with Habitat for Humanity when they build Wichita families homes.
SMSA will also host volunteer opportunities this coming fall when they feed the homeless in November.
With a SMSA membership students will receive newsletters sent via email that show job openings in the sport industry so that even while students are working toward their degree they can follow trends in the job market to know what to expect upon graduation.
“Sport management is not just about working for your dream job or favorite team, but to work in many different aspects in the sport realm,” Harrison said. “My internship has gone tremendously well and it truly wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t joined SMSA.”
In an age when ‘who you know’ is becoming more important than ‘what you know’, SMSA allows the networking necessary for students to land jobs in the sport industry.
One can join the Sport Management Student Association for $20 in the SMSA office in Heskett Center room 109.
