Intramural Sports offers students an athletic outlet

With the school year underway, it is time for students to turn their attention to campus activities like intramural sports.

Wichita State works closely with an online server called IMleagues. To register for intramural sports, students can register for intramural sports by visiting imleagues.com, a link they can find on the official intramural sports page on the WSU website.

Students can participate in 16 events during the fall semester. These range from popular sports like basketball and indoor soccer to the more obscure sports like billiards and ultimate Frisbee.

“We try to offer non-traditional sports and activities for people with diversity in mind,” said Brian Smith, coordinator of sports and competition.

Some of the events last just a few nights or a couple hours, but the more popular sports have entire seasons and postseasons.

The only sport that has open registration now is singles tennis, which season runs for the next month.

“IMleagues will construct schedules for all students involved,” said regular intramural athlete Josh Lemke. “It keeps track of win/loss records to properly record victories and build playoff schedules for playoff applicable sports.”

Students needing help or want to speak with those in charge of student recreation they can find them in the Heskett Center during regular open hours.

Students can also find all intramural sports available with season details on flyers kept on displays along the walls inside the Heskett Center as soon as they walk in.

“We’re always open for suggestions to build new sports or programs,” Smith said. “If the program can have real sustainability we’d love to offer it for the students.”
