Students do the ‘Hustle for Hunger’ for St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Dancers practice their routine for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the Delano district.

While some students are getting ready to lounge for their spring break students with the Mid-America Dance Theater program were working with the Ulrich Museum of Art to help feed the hungry.

Their plan was simple; join the Delano’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and do the “Hustle for Hunger.”

A spokesman for Ulrich explained that the event idea came up because of their recent art exhibition called “Stocked.” “We just thought this would be the neatest thing to see Dillon’s shopping carts rolling through the parade.”

The students will be using shopping carts while walking down the route and will be taking donations as well as they go. They hope that they’ll encourage people to donate to the Kansas Food Bank.

Aidrenne Richardson, a Junior and dancer, said that her and other dancers were excited to be a part of the performance. “We’re really excited about it.” Richardson said.

“We’re hoping to just have fun and show the community what we’ve been up to and to raise awareness for Hustling for Hunger.”

And while the parade may already be over the Kansas Food Bank is still needing food. You can donate online money for them to buy or look for other local food drives at their website here.
