Volleyball travels to Oklahoma tonight
The Wichita State volleyball team travels to Norman, Okla., tonight to take on the University of Oklahoma at 6 p.m.
The game will be televised on Kansas 22 and broadcast on the radio on 103.7 KEYN FM.
The Sooners are 13-4 overall with key victories coming against No. 19 Kentucky and No. 11 Kansas State.
The Shockers are 10-5 on the season. The last time OU and WSU met was Sept. 14, 2011 in Wichita. The Shockers defeated OU in five sets, 25-27, 23-25, 25-18, 29-27 and 15-13.
The Shockers return home on Friday with a game against Illinois State.
Women’s golf struggles continue
The Wichita State women’s golf team finished 18th in a 19-team field at the Johnnie Imes Invitational at the Old Hawthorne Golf Course in Columbia, Mo., on Tuesday.
The Shockers shot a 949 (317-324-308) for the tournament, their lowest score of the season.
Hannah Martin led the Shockers with a 231 (78-78-75) to tie for 47th. Natalie Samb tied for 56th with her 234 (74-83-77). Samb’s 74 was the overall low-round for the Shockers.
The Shockers are next in action on Oct. 15, when they travel to Springfield, Mo.
WSU plane crash victims remembered
On Tuesday, Wichita State held its annual ceremony of remembrance for the 31 WSU football players, administrators and supporters that were killed in the 1970 plane crash.
The plane was en route to Logan, Utah, where the Shockers were to play Utah State University. It crashed near Silver Plume, Colo.
A permanent memorial for the victims is located on Alumni Drive near 18th and Hillside.
