WSU yarn bombing comes to a close
The “bombing” of sculpture at Wichita State’s main campus did not cause any deaths or injuries.
The “Yarn Bombing” ended after a couple of weeks of interesting decorations of two dozen or so sculptures in the universities outdoor collection and a few trees. Local knitters and needlework artists made a splash with colorful creative stitchery.
About 24,856 yards of yarn covered the sculpture made with 184 knitting needles and 46 crocheting hooks, according to the Ulrich Museum of Art Web site. Nearly 100 artists, a few retail shops and Ulrich staff members contributed to the event, which took months of effort, measuring, color coordinating, fitting and planning.
Kristen Beal served as the coordinator for the event.
