Wichita State men’s basketball added another former player from P.J. Couisnard’s high school program in the transfer portal on Friday morning.
Jaret Valencia, a sophomore forward who played his first two seasons at Monmouth in New Jersey, announced his commitment to the Shockers via an Instagram post. He played in Charles Koch Arena last November and scored eight points against WSU.
In his two seasons with Monmouth, he averaged 7.9 points per game on a 47.5% shooting percentage. He also shot at a 37.9% rate from 3-point range.
Valencia started 13 of Monmouth’s 27 games last year. He stands at 6-feet-9-inches, pulled down 4.1 rebounds per game and turned the ball over less than once per game.
Valencia is from Quibdó, Colombia. He played high school ball at Legacy the School of Sport Sciences, which was coached by WSU alumnus and now-assistant coach P.J. Couisnard. Valencia was previously the 25th-ranked player in Columbia, according to 247Sports.
Valencia will join fellow Legacy alums Tyrus Rathan-Mayes and Pierre Couisnard on the Shockers’ 2025-26 roster. Freshman guard Zion Pipkin, another Legacy alumnus, entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.
Valencia was named to the all-Coastal Athletic Association freshman and defensive teams in his first year for Monmouth.
WSU has three spots left on its 2025-26 roster.
