Shocker volleyball takes home SMU tourney title

With conference play next on the agenda, the Wichita State volleyball team picked a good time to catch fire. 

The Shockers spent the weekend in Dallas at the SMU Doubletree Classic, hosted by Southern Methodist University. 

WSU (6-3) defeated all three of its opponents to win the tournament championship. Junior Sam Sanders was named tournament MVP, while junior Chelsey Feekin and senior Jackie Church were both named to the all-tournament team. 

The Shockers opened the tournament with a come-from-behind victory over host SMU, 3-2. Scores were 16-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 and 15-6. 

Auburn was the second victim for the Shockers, a 3-1 win with scores of 15-25, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-17. 

WSU finished the tournament with a sweep of Texas State. Scores were 25-19, 25-22 and 25-17. 

The Shockers entered the week receiving votes to be in the Top 25. 

WSU will get conference play underway on Friday with a trip to Drake (0-9).
