Five ways to fulfill fall break
With fall break only being a few days long, a majority of us students are not taking the time to go on a trip anywhere, but instead will be in Wichita spending time working, catching up on sleep and finishing up some last-minute homework.
Instead of spending the break doing the usual, mundane daily activities, Wichita will be packed with many events that you can participate in in-between your naps that will make your fall break more interesting.
Haunted house
From Field of Screams to the new Wicked Woods, Wichita has a couple of haunted house options for those who are not faint at heart. From chainsaws and clowns to crazy hillbillies chasing you through a field of corn or a forest, your heart will be racing and the experience could be an exhilarating break from extremely boring homework. With Wicked Woods being a new attraction this year, it could be a great option for those of you who go out to the Field of Screams every year. The Field of Screams, though, has created an almost new experience this year with the field portion being larger and much different from the past. They have also added an escape shack option this year where you will get 20 minutes to figure out different clues and puzzles in order to escape from the shack. Field of Screams ranges from $20 to $45 and the escape shack ranges by group size from $35 to $70. Wicked Woods costs $15.
Wicked at Century II
For those of you that are a fan of “Wizard of Oz” or even the “Wicked” trilogy book series, seeing a play that shows how the Wicked Witch of the West came to be is definitely the fall break activity for you. The play will be at Century II from Oct. 12 through 16 and Oct. 18 through 23. Tickets cost is $54 to $144 per ticket depending on day of the show according to Wichitatix.com.
Pumpkin patch and corn maze
Being surrounded by acres of fields has its perks. From Bergmann’s Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch, Cox Farm and Walters Pumpkin Patch, Wichita has plenty of options for your pumpkin patch and corn maze needs. Home of the largest corn maze in the area, at 15 acres, Bergmann’s is a great place to spend the day and get lost in. Along with the tricky maze are trivia questions throughout as well as horse rides, a pumpkin patch, trailer rides, carnival games and much more. Cox Farm and Walters Pumpkin Patch offer similar options as well. Bergmann’s tickets start at $10 for the maze and varying prices for pumpkins and other attractions, Cox Farm tickets start at $8 for the maze and varying prices for the pumpkins and Walters Pumpkin Patch is also $8 with varying pumpkin prices.
Museum of the Undead 4
The Exploration Place is hosting the annual zombie event on Friday, October 14 for people 21 and older. The event features a variety of zombie activities including firing a cannon at zombies through beer goggles, completing a genome scavenger hunt and helping find the cure for the zombie apocalypse. The event costs from $15 to $25 and encourages attendees to wear their best apocalyptic attire.
Tallgrass Film Festival
The Tallgrass Film Festival is a Wichita tradition that started 14 years ago. Featuring the works of many independent film directors, the festival is meant to showcase the work of those not shown on the big screen. With many options to choose from, viewers can see multiple films daily until the end of the festival on October 16. Ticket prices vary per film.
