Center Will Berg will join the list of returning Wichita State basketball players after he announced he will stay for another season Monday afternoon.
The post on Berg’s personal Instagram account came just hours after forwards Dillon Battie and TJ Williams announced they will return next year, as well.
The return of those three is unlike what’s happened recently to the Shockers in the transfer portal. The team brought in 12 new players ahead of last season, eight of which were portal additions.
So far since the 2025-26 season ended, Wichita State has had more players say they will sport the black and yellow next season than swap colors. As of Monday, guard Dre Kindell is the only player who has announced plans to enter the portal, which officially opens April 7 and closes April 21.
And for the Shockers, Berg’s commitment is paramount for continuity on the glass. They finished No. 4 in the country in offensive rebounding, averaging 14.67 per game and shattering the program record of 13.8 per game in 1995-96.
That effort was spearheaded by the frontcourt duo of Berg and center Emmanuel Okorafor, who has yet to receive an additional year of eligibility after applying for a medical hardship waiver.
Berg, who stands 7 feet, 2 inches, averaged 8.1 rebounds a game and pulled down 117 on offense — 41% of his season total (285). He also averaged 8.8 points and tallied nine double-doubles.
He played in 35 of the Shockers’ 36 games, and missed just one due to a mid-season ankle sprain.
Berg will have at least one year of eligibility, entering his redshirt senior season.
