It didn’t take much time for Wichita State basketball to see its first hit to the transfer portal.
Dre Kindell, who averaged 5.9 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, will look for a new home going into next season, according to his agent Friday afternoon. The Shockers’ season ended last Tuesday against Tulsa in the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament.
Kindell, a senior guard, spent just one season in the black and yellow after transferring in from Barton Community College in Kansas. He will have at least one year of eligibility remaining.
Kindell’s playing time fluctuated throughout the season, especially toward the end of the year. He went from 19.6 minutes a game through the first 24 to 11.9 through the last 12.
WSU coach Paul Mills said Kindell provided a “spark” multiple times throughout the season and attributed wins against UNC Asheville and at home against Florida Atlantic to Kindell’s production off the bench.
The transfer portal officially opens April 7 and closes April 21.
With Kindell’s departure, Wichita State now has three roster spots available for the 2026-27 season should center Emmanuel Okorafor receive a medical hardship waiver.
