Cross Country: Women finish seventh, men 30th at Pre-Nationals
Wichita State’s women’s cross country team placed seventh in the non-seeded 6K race at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The men placed 30th in the seeded 8K race, an improvement from last year’s 37th place finish.
Sophomore Rebekah Topham led WSU, finishing 11th with a time of 21:31.6. Senior Sidney Hirsch finished 23rd with a time of 21:46.6, while redshirt senior Emilea Finley followed closely behind at 28th with a time of 21:50.4 in the 6K race.
Topham improved her time from last year’s race by 15.9 seconds.
The Shocker women finished ahead of Conference rivals Indiana State (12th) and Drake (25th) on Saturday.
In his third appearance at Pre-Nationals, senior Jocis Ugis finished in 48th place with a time of 24:51.3. Junior Pedro Montoya placed 130th with a time of 25:27.8. Junior Kyle Larkin followed finishing 180th with a time of 25:49.4.
Redshirt freshman Suzie Wright and Freshman McKenna Paintin ran in the Open 6K race. Wright finished 77th in a time of 24:19.5 and Paintin finished 89th in a time of 25:00.5.
In the Men’s Open 8K race, the four runners for WSU were lead by Junior Stan Skwarlo III, who finished 14th with a time of 26:38.1. Freshman Josh Kline followed finishing 27th with a time of 26:58.5.
Freshman Sean Curran and Connor Stine finished side-by-side placing 56th and 57th with a time of 28:05.3 and 28:14.0, respectively.
WSU follows with the Ollie Isom Invitational at 4 p.m on Monday at the Prairie Trails Golf Course in El Dorado.
