Wichita State basketball’s roster is nearly complete with New Mexico State transfer Cyr Malonga’s commitment, which he announced Friday afternoon on his personal Instagram account.
He is now the Shockers’ fourth commitment from the transfer portal this offseason, joining guards Jordan Frison and Jahari Long, and wing Bryce Heard.
Malonga brings three seasons of experience with him, including time spent in the American Conference. He will have at least one year of eligibility remaining entering his senior year.
Malonga, a 6-foot-11 center from Congo, played 24 games with the Aggies last season and started 16 of them — 15 of which were at the beginning of the year. His role shrank by the end of the year and finished with averages of 3.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.4 blocks per game.
Before playing at New Mexico State, Malonga spent two years with in-conference East Carolina.
As a freshman in 2023-24, he played in 28 games and started 14 of them, averaging 9.9 minutes, 2.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. His production dipped during the 2024-25 season, playing in only 18 games — 10 fewer than the season before.
Wichita State now has three centers on its roster: soon-to-be senior Will Berg, soon-to-be sophomore Noah Hill and Malonga.
While minute distribution remains unclear, one thing is for certain. Malonga and Hill will provide relief when Berg logs heavy minutes or even gets into foul trouble. Malonga, also having played at ECU for two seasons, should be accustomed to the physical play in the American.
The transfer portal entry window officially closed Tuesday, and the Shockers now have one roster spot open ahead of the 2026-27 season.
