Two new student government director positions were created by an executive order from Student Body President Jayden Island during the student senate meeting on May 6.
The new roles are a graduate student engagement director and a student government graphic designer position. As with all cabinet positions, they are paid.
The graduate student engagement director position is intended to strengthen the relationship between student government and graduate students. The role entails speaking with deans and administration in the graduate school, as well as making SGA programming more relevant to graduate students.
“We feel like there has been a gap between the college experience and the graduate student population,” Student Body Vice President Anoushka Raju said. “That’s something we learned this past session with some of our other cabinet members. So that could look like something similar to our engagement outreach, but more catered towards the experience of graduate students.”
The graphic designer would design visual materials to promote SGA across digital, print and social media branding. Raju said that they wanted to expand SGA’s current media.
“So we (did) a lot of great Instagram posts this past session,” Raju said. “And going forward, we’d like to expand on that — so things like videos to help engage students a little bit more.”
Raju said they are planning on recruiting to fill these positions once the semester ends.
