Candidate for dean of college of liberal arts, sciences visiting campus Monday

One of four finalists for the position of dean of Wichita State’s Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will be on campus for a public forum from 4-5 p.m. Monday in Hubbard Hall room 231.

Robert Matz, interim dean of the college of humanities and social sciences at George Mason University, will be on campus Monday and Tuesday.

The Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the biggest college at WSU. Monday’s public forum is open to everyone.

The first candidate, Andrew Hippisley, chair of linguistics at the University of Kentucky, visisted campus last week.

The other candidates are Orlando Perez, associate dean of the college of arts, humanities, and social sciences at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, and Bessie House-Soremekun, associate dean and professor of political science at Jackson State University.

Current dean of the WSU college of liberal arts and sciences Ron Matson will retire at the end of the school year after 48 years at the university.

NOTE: The print version of this story incorrectly states that Leslie Brothers is a candidate for the liberal arts and sciences dean. Brothers is a candidate for the director of WSU’s Ulrich Museum of Art. The online version has been corrected.
