Stadium upgrades at Wilkins Stadium are nearing completion.
This week, WSU started installing new safety pads to the fencing structure along the outfield.
Safety pads were a necessity among stadium upgrades, said Brad Pittman, associate athletic director and head of facilities and operations. This update brings Wilkins Stadium in line with new NCAA regulations for player safety.

New fences are installed at Wilkins Stadium. WSU hosts Avila on Sept. 22 to open the fall season.
“At the forefront of the project was player safety,” Pittman said.
Pittman said the safety pads should lessen the potential for injury should a player collide with the fence.
The project costs $100,000, Pittman said.
