Wichita State Student Government unanimously vote to pass the Governmental Relations Bill. This bill creates a new committee to get students involved in the governmental process and changes some of the roles the SGA Chief of Operations does.

Wichita State’s Student Government Association unanimously passed a bill at Wednesday’s meeting creating a government relations committee. The committee hopes to increase participation in government for students at WSU.

The bill also changed some of the responsibilities of the chief of operations position. All of the chief of operations’ legislative duties, such as helping students draft legislation, will transition to the student body vice president. The chief of operations will also chair the new government relations committee.

Senators questioned the makeup of the new committee during the meeting, as it was not specified in the bill. While the senators questioned the makeup of the committee, they applauded the flexibility that came with it.

“I think the way it is now offers a lot of rooms for flexibility,” Veterans Sen. and incoming Student Body Vice President Michael Bearth said. “In the Marines, we say, ‘Stay super Gumby,’ which is always flexible.”

SGA also approved funding to reimburse design students for attending an AIGA conference in Dallas and for the Miss Latina pageant hosted by Hispanic American Leadership Organization.
