Shocker volleyball sweeps Evansville

Advancing to 12-6 on the season and 4-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference, the Wichita State volleyball team won the match against Evansville 3-0 Monday night by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-15.

Match leaders included Abbie Lehman, who led the team with 10 kills and seven blocks, Emily Heibert with seven kills and 33 assists, and Dani Mostrom with 12 digs on the night, while WSU hit .383 percent, collectively.

Although Evansville took an early lead in the first set, the Shockers quickly answers and pulled ahead, ending the set on a kill from Heibert.

In the second, the Shockers jumped on top early, Evansville retaliated, but Wichita State won 9 of the last 11 points, winning 25-16.

The Shockers finished strong, as they took the final set, ending on a kill by Mikayla Raudsepp.

Redshirt Freshman Shimen Fayad was named MVC Freshman of the Week after having a career-high 20 kills and .261 hitting percentage against Missouri State, and averaging five kills and 1.25 digs per set.

Wichita State’s next match up is at 7 p.m. Friday the University of Northern Iowa.
