KMUW to conclude concert series Saturday in Old Town

The Comfort Revue performs in Old Town last weekend. KMUW and the Old Town Association will conclude the three-part series at 7 p.m. Saturday.

KMUW, Wichita’s local National Public Radio station, will conclude it’s three-part concert series celebration with performances by two blues style bands Friday on the Farm and Art Market Plaza in the heart of Old Town.

The concert series, which was partnered with the Old Town Association, is a celebration of KMUW’s move to Old Town, announced last April

“We will be in the heart of the city, in the heart of Old Town, and we will be doing more with the community in an active way, in addition to the programming service that we offer,” said Sarah Jane Crespo, engagement marketing director for KMUW.

Saturday night’s performance introduces The Macy Brothers and the Nick Schnebelen Band, two rhythmic, powerhouse blues groups.

“[Attendees] can expect a really good time,” she said. “We have had excellent bands so far, and will definitely see some really good bands this Saturday.”

The first concert, held Sept. 26, featured jazz ensembles from William Flynn Trio, WSU student jazz combos, and Brazilian choro jazz from A Terra Plana. Indie, rock fusion artists Roxy Roca, Crushed Out, Feral Foster and The Comfort Revue played collective blues, country and jazz inspired melodies at the second concert, held Oct. 6.

“Those different genres really speak to the programming we have here at KMUW,” Crespo said.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. It is free and open to the public.

An after-party will follow the concert at Barlycorns, 608 E. Douglas. Admission is free to those who purchase a concert T-shirt.
