Annual intramural golf tournament to tee off Friday at MacDonald golf course

The Wichita State intramural golf tournament is set to tee off at 2 p.m. Friday at MacDonald Golf Course, 840 N. Yale Ave.

Six teams are registered to play this year compared with four teams last year.

Ethan Green, interim coordinator for Competitive Sports, said high numbers of participation aren’t necessarily the goal for an intramural golf tournament.

“We’re looking for unique participants,” Green said. “We want people with a passion for a particular sport — but not necessarily other intramurals — to come and have a good experience so that next year, maybe, they’ll try other events.”

This is also the first year that Campus Recreation has partnered with MacDonald Public Golf Course due to the closure of the on-campus Braeburn Golf Course. Green said this course is manageable for all skill levels.

The tournament’s six teams tee off in groups of two and play 18 holes. Teams are signed up in the categories of men, women and fraternities. The winner of each category will be awarded a championship T-shirt.
