Marshall in third place in Infiniti Coaches’ Challenge
Round one of the Infiniti Coaches’ Charity Challenge began Jan. 5 and ends Sunday. Wichita State men’s basketball head coach Gregg Marshall is in third place on the leaderboard.
The challenge is a contest run by the automaker Infiniti USA, allowing NCAA men’s basketball coaches the chance to win money for charity. It has three rounds before the Final Four voting begins March 2.
The coaches receiving the most votes gain a spot in the finals, with the winning coach receiving $100,000 toward his chosen charity, according to the event website. Each coach gets at least $1,000 for his favorite cause.
Marshall is representing the Wichita Children’s Home.
“We think that those kids deserve an opportunity to show that they are cared about and loved in the community and get a chance to have a successful life,” Marshall said. “If we can help make their lives a little easier by showing them love and compassion, and hopefully winning $100,000 for the Children’s Home, it’s what we need to do.”
Marshall has 8 percent of the votes behind Purdue’s Matt Painter with 13 percent and Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg with 23 percent.
