SGA passes sexual violence resolution, funding bills
Wichita State Student Government Association passed a resolution and two funding bills in a short meeting Wednesday.
The resolution was a pledge by SGA to support the “It’s On Us” initiative proposed by the White House last month.
The initiative calls for raised awareness of sexual assault on college campuses and for students to step up and make an effort to stop sexual violence.
SGA’s resolution encouraged the “student body, as well as faculty and administration, to make a personal commitment to the ‘It’s on Us’ initiative by raising awareness for the campaign.”
One funding bill was for an individual and the other funding bill allocated $1,600 to cover remaining expenses of the Peace Pole Project for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
The project will include a “peace pole” — a metal sculpture — installed on campus. The pole symbolizes peace and harmony in the world and will have writings in different languages inscribed on the pole.
The project is currently taking designs for the peace pole, and the money allocated by SGA will help pay the selected artist to make the project and for construction materials.
SGA will meet again at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the RSC.
