‘Somebody’s Else’s Prints’ offers patrons a break from daily life
Sometimes, all that is needed to clear one’s head is a nice trip to the art gallery — preferably, one that is full of intricate pieces that will challenge the minds of even the most educated.
For Wichita State students and faculty, the trip to the art gallery does not have to be more than a few steps right out of the classroom.
On Wednesday, the Ulrich Museum of Art featured a small gallery tour centered around Wichita-native and artist Bruce Conner and his series, “Somebody Else’s Prints.”
The gallery tour is the first of a series of short gallery tours that the Ulrich plans to host.
“We’re just trying something different,” said Carolyn Copple, the museum’s art events manager.
Designed to be a quick, accessible event that WSU students and faculty can attend on their lunch break, patrons were invited to eat a sack lunch on the terrace of the museum, and then were led through the gallery by curator Jim Johnson.
“Bruce was an extremely detailed, excessive artist,” Johnson said to the exhibit attendees.
Conner, a former WSU student, is known for his artwork, which expresses his alternative viewpoints on social issues, including his depictions of the Cold War.
The Ulrich Museum will screen the Bruce Conner film, ‘The Art of Montage II,’ on Nov. 4. The film will be free to the public.
