Intramural sports fall season kicks off

Wichita State’s intramural sports offered by Campus Recreation have begun their fall season.

While more common sports like 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball, flag football and indoor soccer are offered, students can also enjoy trying their hand in lesser-known events.

“I feel like they have a really nice mix of sports,” WSU senior Josh Graves said. “Variety is the spice of life, right? Intramural sports [are] the spice of WSU, I guess.”

Events like golf scramble, racquetball, billiards, canoe battleship and tennis definitely get some students’ attention.

The more popular sports like flag football, volleyball and indoor soccer register teams in multiple divisions, such as coed, fraternity, men’s and women’s sorority.

“Splitting teams up based on what kind of team is registering is pretty smart actually,” Rebecca Timmons said. “It allows us to play teams of the same make-up.

“I think it makes it more competitive and definitely more fun.”

Students can register for intramural sports by gathering information at the Heskett Center or online by searching the WSU website for intramural sports.

All intramural participants will be required to create an account on IMLeagues.com.

There are step-by-step directions once you get to the registration page.

The earliest fall season began Aug. 27 for CollegeFootball Pick’Em and the latest begins Nov. 12 for Canoe Battleship.

All events, except Canoe Battleship, are free for students to join, and all sports are scheduled and officiated by student site supervisors and officials.
