Golf in full swing

The Wichita State men’s golf team traveled to Ann Arbor, Mich. this weekend to compete in the University of Michigan-hosted Wolverine Intercollegiate tournament.

The Shockers managed to sink a place in sixth with 282 shots, finishing the weekend nine-over par — tying them with Eastern Michigan.

WSU started the first day of the tournament on Saturday and ended the opening day in sixth place and a mere five shots under second place.

The University of Michigan claimed the title finishing seven-under par, followed by Pennsylvania State and the University of Kansas, who closed with three-over par and four-over par, respectively.

Other schools in attendance were San Jose State, Wisconsin, Harvard, Xavier, Rutgers University and Fresno State.

It was a particularly good weekend for WSU sophomore Grant Bennett and junior Alec Heinen — both who bested their career tournament scores.

Bennett finished with 208 and Heinen capped off the weekend with 214.

Playing as an individual, freshman Jacob Bishop tied for 15th place with a score of 215.

The Shockers are scheduled to tee off again Sept. 15 and 16 at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.
