Students change majors, explore options
Pre-pharmacy. Biology. Sociology. Three majors investigated, then Kym Rundel graduated with a degree in social work from Wichita State.
When social work did not pan out the way she thought, Rundel did not hesitate to continue her education at WSU again.
She came back and started in the W. Frank Barton School of Business in the marketing program, but changed to accounting.
She is now studying to get her second bachelor’s degree and doesn’t mind at all.
“College is your investment in yourself,” Rundel said. “When my first bachelor’s didn’t turn out the way I thought, I knew I had to find what was going to work best for me.”
Rundel said she found that many classes will work for multiple majors, and students should explore whatever classes they want because it’s their gift to themselves.
“Stay calm,” Rundel said. “Do whatever you want to do with your education.”
Rundel also said students shouldn’t worry about how long it takes and just do what makes them happy.
“I really explored social work in the real world, and when I couldn’t see myself doing that long term, I knew what I had to do: come back.”
Rundel said her journey is not so unique.
“Life is too short to be unhappy with what you’re doing,” she said. “Somebody else probably said that at some point, but it was true for me and a lot of other people.”
