Two tennis athletes earn academic honors

Two of Wichita State’s returning tennis players Tomislav Gregurovic and Rebecca Pedrazzi  earned 2014 ITA All-Academic Awards.

To qualify for the award a player must meet all of the following criteria: Win a varsity letter,  have a GPA of at least 3.5, and be enrolled at their current school for at least two semesters.

Gregurovic and Pedrazzi have played in matches for WSU during their careers, but they said they realize the importance of academics.

“As a team, we all try to achieve the best scores we can, both on and off the court,” Pedrazzi said. “Both school and sport have to have the same level of importance.”

Predrazzi will help lead the WSU women’s tennis team next season, a WSU was highly ranked as No. 32 nationally during the Spring season.

Pedrazzi was 15-5 at the No. 2 singles position during the 2014 Spring season and was undefeated in MVC singles play, which got her named to the 2014 MVC All-First Team.

“It’s a balancing act and you’ve got to stay focused on both tennis and the school work, if one of them isn’t going well it can influence your performance in the other,” Gregurovic said.

Gregurovic played No. 3 singles during last season and finished with an 18-8 record, including 12-4 from the No. 3 position.

Shocker tennis starts back up in September.
