12 finalists named for Distinguished Scholarship Invitational

Twelve finalists were announced Monday in the annual Distinguished Scholarship Invitational. Two of these students will be selected to receive a $52,000 Henry Gore Memorial Scholarship on Jan. 30. The scholarship is one of the largest awarded to undergraduates in Kansas.

The finalists were selected from 328 students, who competed in the invitational on Nov. 16. To compete, students must have at least a 3.50 GPA and 24 score on the ACT. The average GPA among the finalists is 3.95, with an average ACT score of 29.

The finalists are:

• Aisha Duggins, Wichita Northeast Magnet High School

• Brissa Gallegos, Wichita High School North

• Mary Henning, Wichita High School Northwest

• Derick Holmes, Wichita High School Southeast

• Kevin Kraus, Salina South High School

• Jennifer Mattar, Wichita Collegiate School

• Bridget McSorley, Kansas City, Kan., Bishop Miege High School

• Meenakshi Natesan, Wichita High School East

• Jenny Nguyen, Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School

• Madison Ripperger, Wichita, Kan., Trinity Academy

• Amy Vuong, Wichita High School Southeast

• Jackson Wilborn, Wichita Northeast Magnet High School

The finalists will return for another round of interviews on Jan. 29. The winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 in the Marcus Welcome Center. Though only two will receive the Henry Gore Memorial Scholarship, all finalists will receive a scholarship packet.
